LOINC Code 22004-6: CRC checksum

22004-6 is a LOINC code used to identify CRC checksum in laboratory and clinical observation data. You may see this code in lab systems, lab reports, EHR exports, interoperability feeds, or other structured clinical data exchanges. LOINC codes identify tests, measurements, observations, survey items, and clinical questions in a standardized way. It is associated with the component CRC checksum. It is commonly used with the system or sample type Cancer case.XXX.

What is this code?

LOINC codes identify tests, measurements, observations, survey items, and clinical questions in a standardized way. It is associated with the component CRC checksum. It is commonly used with the system or sample type Cancer case.XXX.

When is it used?

  • Used in lab systems, EHRs, and clinical data exchange.
  • May identify a test, observation, survey item, or clinical document request rather than a diagnosis.
  • Status: ACTIVE

What it does not mean

  • The code identifies the observation or test, not the actual result.

Key facts

CRC checksum
Cyclic Redundancy Code (CRC) CHECKSUM for the NAACCR record in which it resides. A unique value is calculated for each unique record in a NAACCR file. The value is calculated by applying a CRC algorithm to all data fields of the NAACCR record (excluding the CRC CHECKSUM field). Following a transmission, the CRC CHECKSUM can be recalculated and compared with the transmitted CHECKSUM. Identical values indicate an error-free transmission; differing values indicate an error in transmission. The algorithm recommended by NAACCR is on the NAACCR website athttp://www.naaccr.org. Users must provide recipients of the data with the algorithm used to create the data transmission file. Otherwise, the item should be left blank. The CHECKSUM can be used to determine if a record-level error occurred during transmission and can also be used to correct any such errors. Record-level CRC CHECKSUMs also allow portions of a NAACCR file to be salvaged in the event of a transmission error... NAACCR Data Standards and Data Dictionary Version 11
