LOINC Code 76479-5: Acetylcholinesterase Nar (Amn fld) [Interp]
76479-5 is a LOINC code used to identify Acetylcholinesterase Nar (Amn fld) [Interp] in laboratory and clinical observation data. You may see this code in lab systems, lab reports, EHR exports, interoperability feeds, or other structured clinical data exchanges. LOINC codes identify tests, measurements, observations, survey items, and clinical questions in a standardized way. It is associated with the component Acetylcholinesterase. It is commonly used with the system or sample type Amnio fld.
What is this code?
LOINC codes identify tests, measurements, observations, survey items, and clinical questions in a standardized way. It is associated with the component Acetylcholinesterase. It is commonly used with the system or sample type Amnio fld.
When is it used?
- Used in lab systems, EHRs, and clinical data exchange.
- May identify a test, observation, survey item, or clinical document request rather than a diagnosis.
- Status: ACTIVE
- Order vs observation: Observation
What it does not mean
- The code identifies the observation or test, not the actual result.
Key facts
- Acetylcholinesterase [Interpretation] in Amniotic fluid Narrative
- Acetylcholinesterase
- An interpretation of the acetylcholinesterase (AChE) in amniotic fluid testing result which is used as an aid to diagnose open neural tube defect (NDT) and ventral wall defects. The two most common neural tube defects are spina bifida and anencephaly. When an NTD is suspected based upon maternal serum alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) screening results, or diagnosed via ultrasound, detection of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) in amniotic fluid is a useful diagnostic tool as normal amniotic fluid does not contain AChE, unless from the fetus as a result of an open NTD. The patient's gestational age must be at least 13 weeks (second trimester) for accurate AChE detection. Optimal gestational age is 14 to 18 weeks. If acetylcholinesterase is present genetic consultation and high-resolution ultrasound may be suggested.
