What is this code?

LOINC codes identify tests, measurements, observations, survey items, and clinical questions in a standardized way. It is associated with the component Walking physical activity. It is commonly used with the system or sample type ^Patient.

When is it used?

  • Used in lab systems, EHRs, and clinical data exchange.
  • May identify a test, observation, survey item, or clinical document request rather than a diagnosis.
  • Status: ACTIVE
  • Order vs observation: Observation
  • Method: IPAQ

What it does not mean

  • The code identifies the observation or test, not the actual result.

Key facts

Walking physical activity [IPAQ]
Walking physical activity
A patient's total walking physical activity can be reported as a continuous variable based on the duration (e.g. in minutes) and frequency (e.g. days) of walking over the past 7 days. In the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) Long form, the patient is asked separate questions on walking in three domainsat work, for transport, and in leisure time. The total duration and frequency for each of these domains is used to calculate the patient's total walking physical activity level. In the IPAQ Short form, these domains are grouped together into a single question for duration and another for frequency of walking over the past 7 days. The activity level is reported in MET-minutes/week or MET-minutes/day, although the former is more frequently used and is thus suggested. Calculation for walking physical activity for the long and short IPAQ forms: Short form: Walking MET-minutes/week = 3.3 * walking minutes/day * walking days/week Long form: Walking MET-minutes/week = 3.3 * walking minutes/day (at work+for transport+in leisure) * walking days/week (at work+for transport+in leisure) For the IPAQ, walking is considered a moderate-intensity activity. To determine a total moderate-intensity MET-minutes/week, the walking and moderate totals should be added.
