What is this code?

LOINC codes identify tests, measurements, observations, survey items, and clinical questions in a standardized way. It is associated with the component Calculated panel reactive antibody. It is commonly used with the system or sample type Ser.

When is it used?

  • Used in lab systems, EHRs, and clinical data exchange.
  • May identify a test, observation, survey item, or clinical document request rather than a diagnosis.
  • Status: ACTIVE
  • Order vs observation: Both
  • Method: Calculated

What it does not mean

  • The code identifies the observation or test, not the actual result.

Key facts

Calculated panel reactive antibody - Serum
Calculated panel reactive antibody
A patient's "calculated panel reactive antibody" (cPRA) determines the likelihood that a transplant recipient and donor would be incompatible. The cPRA is calculated based on how many and which HLA antibodies the patient has compared to known information about the HLA antigen frequencies from ~1200 donors from 2003-2005.[PMID19958328] The more antibodies the patient has and the more common the HLA antigens are in the donor pool, the higher the cPRA. Calculated cPRA is not the same as a patient's percent PRA, which is simply the percentage of a pool of donors (~100) to which a patient had reactive antibodies (see the HLA Ab panel [LOINC: 46993-2]). Note that "panel" is part of the antibody name and a single result is expected. This is not panel term.
