LOINC Code 82368-2: Thyroid secretory capacity Calculated by SPINA [Moles/Time]

82368-2 is a LOINC code used to identify Thyroid secretory capacity Calculated by SPINA [Moles/Time] in laboratory and clinical observation data. You may see this code in lab systems, lab reports, EHR exports, interoperability feeds, or other structured clinical data exchanges. LOINC codes identify tests, measurements, observations, survey items, and clinical questions in a standardized way. It is associated with the component Thyroid secretory capacity. It is commonly used with the system or sample type Ser/Plas.

What is this code?

LOINC codes identify tests, measurements, observations, survey items, and clinical questions in a standardized way. It is associated with the component Thyroid secretory capacity. It is commonly used with the system or sample type Ser/Plas.

When is it used?

  • Used in lab systems, EHRs, and clinical data exchange.
  • May identify a test, observation, survey item, or clinical document request rather than a diagnosis.
  • Status: ACTIVE
  • Order vs observation: Both
  • Method: Calculated.SPINA

What it does not mean

  • The code identifies the observation or test, not the actual result.

Key facts

Thyroid secretory capacity [Moles/time] in Serum or Plasma by Calculated.SPINA
Thyroid secretory capacity
Thyroid secretory capacity (also called thyroid output or GT) is the maximum secretion rate of the thyroid gland under stimulated conditions. The structure parameter inference approach (SPINA) uses Michaelis-Menten functions and pharmakokinetic data to estimate GT under conditions of substrate saturation. One calculation is based on peripheral TSH, free T4, thyroid binding globulin and thyroid binding prealbumin values, and an alternate calculation uses peripheral TSH and total T4. GT calculated using the SPINA approach is also known as SPINA-GT. SPINA-GT may be useful in diagnosing secondary or tertiary thyroid conditions and has also been shown to be able to clearly differentiate between euthyroidism and functional thyroid disorders of primary origin. [PMID27375554] Peripheral deiodinase activity by SPINA, called SPINA-GD, is a related result [LOINC: 82367-4].
