What is this code?

LOINC codes identify tests, measurements, observations, survey items, and clinical questions in a standardized way. It is associated with the component Lung cancer antibody. It is commonly used with the system or sample type Ser/Plas.

When is it used?

  • Used in lab systems, EHRs, and clinical data exchange.
  • May identify a test, observation, survey item, or clinical document request rather than a diagnosis.
  • Status: ACTIVE
  • Order vs observation: Observation
  • Method: IA

What it does not mean

  • The code identifies the observation or test, not the actual result.

Key facts

Lung cancer antibody [Interpretation] in Serum or Plasma by Immunoassay
Lung cancer antibody
Screening for lung cancer using computerized tomography (CT) has been shown to decrease mortality by 20%. CT is an expensive procedure that also can reveal non-malignant changes on the chest CT. The EarlyCDT-Lung assay is a cheaper alternative with fairly good sensitivity and specificity for detecting early, asymptomatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and small cell lung cancer (SCLC). To achieve the desired specificity of 90%, the autoantibody cutoff values were chosen based on that goal. The overall sensitivity/specificity of the assay was determined to be 38%/88%. When the sensitivity and specificity were measured based on the type of tumor, NSCLC was 34%/88% and SCLC was 50%/88%.[http//cancerpreventionresearch.aacrjournals.org/content/4/7/1126.long#ref-1]
